Summary of Position
Falvey Insurance Group (FIG) is seeking a collaborative and practical Associate General Counsel (AGC), Litigation to strengthen our subrogation efforts and shape FIG’s long-term litigation strategy. This role partners closely with FIG’s leadership, the VP of Recoveries, and outside counsel to drive efficiency and achieve impactful outcomes in litigation. The AGC will help mentor and guide a dedicated recovery team, equipping them with the tools and training needed to review claim files, draft communications, prepare recovery demands, and engage confidently with counterparties. In addition, this role will oversee and coordinate outside counsel relationships, provide direct litigation support when needed, and contribute to building an integrated, cost-effective litigation strategy across FIG’s expanding insurance programs.Position Functions:
Subrogation Recoveries
- Collaborate with the VP of Recoveries to improve subrogation outcomes by providing legal guidance, training, and practical support to recovery agents.
- Teach and mentor recovery agents on the fundamentals of claims handling, including claim file analysis, drafting correspondence and demand letters, and engaging in effective negotiations.
- Develop strategies to improve recovery efficiency, implement creative and innovative solutions, reduce reliance on outside counsel, and lower overall recovery costs.
- Work collaboratively across Claims, Underwriting, and Compliance to support recovery initiatives and strengthen FIG’s legal posture.
Litigation Oversight and Strategy
- Manage day-to-day interactions with outside counsel and assist business leaders in coordinating litigation across multiple jurisdictions.
- Provide strategic guidance on emerging liability issues, particularly in bodily injury and contingent auto exposures.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of long-term recovery and litigation KPIs, using data to track success and refine strategy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The candidate should have strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively interact across all levels of the company as well as with external partners and outside counsel. They should possess excellent legal research, writing, and analytical abilities, combined with advanced problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. A collaborative approach is essential, along with the ability to mentor and train non-lawyers in practical claims-handling and recovery skills. The candidate should be customer service–oriented, highly organized, and detail-focused, with the ability to work independently while contributing to team success. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
Other Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; licensed and in good standing with at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 2–4 years of litigation experience, ideally with a focus on insurance subrogation, liability, bodily injury, or contingent auto coverage.
- Experience with bodily injury and contingent auto claims is especially valuable
