Summary of Position


The General Counsel at Falvey Insurance Group’s provides strategic legal advice to support organizational objectives, ensure regulatory compliance, and mitigate legal risk. This role is critical for protecting the Company’s legal interest and providing counsel to the executive team and support to all levels of staff as necessary.

Position Functions

The General counsel duties the following:
  1. Ensure strong corporate governance practices by advising the Board of Directors and executive leadership on fiduciary duties, board policies, governance frameworks, and regulatory obligations; support board meetings, minutes, and corporate recordkeeping.
  2. Maintain awareness on new and existing laws, and ensure companies adherence to said laws that may impact functionality of the business
  3. Provide training and guidance to internal departments on legal topics and compliance best practices.
  4. Draft, Negotiating, and Managing client and vendor contracts as needed, including key business agreements, vendor contracts, NDAs, leases, and licensing agreements.
  5. Management and Oversite of Legal Team including:
    1. Lead corporate compliance initiatives, including data privacy, licensing, marketing disclosures, policy language reviews, and product development to proactively address regulatory and legal risks.
    2. Oversee claims litigation, coverage disputes, and other legal proceedings, including managing relationships with outside counsel.
    3. Oversee recoveries litigation, disputes, and other legal proceedings, including managing relationships with outside counsel.
  6. Other activities as assigned by management including special projects and presentations.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

The candidate should have a strong knowledge of business operations, have a demonstrated ability to effectively manage internal and external relationships, have high problem solving and conflict resolution skills; be customer service oriented, demonstrate the ability to share knowledge and work effectively in a team environment; and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.  Microsoft Office Suite knowledge preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to and good standing with a state bar and candidate must be a member of the Bar in either RI, MA, and/or NY.
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal practice, including significant in-house counsel or law firm experience; at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry (e.g., finance, healthcare, insurance, technology) preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing legal teams and working with executive-level stakeholders.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit and operate a computer; answer and communicate on a telephone; operate a copy machine.

Hours of Operation and Working Conditions


This position supports our marketing efforts internationally. This position's work hours are Monday through Friday 9am - 5pm, in a hybrid work environment.  Our hybrid environment is 3 days within our business-casual office environment. Of these 3 days in the office, Wednesday and Thursday are required. The other 2 days’ work from home, and our employees choose their schedule.  This position requires
